APD Tax to be Replaced by Per Plane Tax

The loan is to finance the construction of the Jalousie Enclave,  that will be an extension of the famous $40 million Jalousie Plantation - also built by M Group - in St. Lucia, West Indies


Ottawa-- Feb. 9, 2010 -- Canada’s Transport Minister, John Baird, and the Honourable Peter Van Loan, Minister of International Trade, has announced that effective immediately airlines can provide more flight options between Canada and the Caribbean.

Jan. 18, 2010 -- Growth returned to international tourism in the last quarter of 2009contributing to better than expected full-year results, according tothe latest edition of the UNWTO World Tourism Barometer.


Dec. 14, 2009 -- The Inter-American Development Bank will hold a business plan competition for Caribbean tourism projects involving low-income communities in their value chains. The contest, organized by the IDB’s Opportunities for the Majority Initiative, is open to companies based in the Bahamas, Barbados, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago.




Boston -- Dec. 2, 2009 -- Effective May 3, 2010, JetBlue Airways will give a substantial boost to its Caribbean flight schedule, offering Boston travelers 25 percent more departures to cities including Aruba; Cancun, Mexico; Montego Bay, Jamaica; and San Juan, Puerto Rico.



Oct. 27, 2009 -- Hopes are growing that the government will look again at disproportionate increases to Air Passenger Duty (APD) slated for flights to the Caribbean.

May 13, 2009 -- International tourism demand has deteriorated further due to the impact of the global economic recession. International tourist arrivals declined at a rate of 8% between January and February this year, leaving the overall volume at the same level as recorded in 2007.



March 30, 2009 -- According to the latest Hotels.com Hotel Price Index, the average price of a hotel room around the world fell by 12% last year*, driven by price drops across every continent. Prices in North America fell by the greatest extent, down 12% in Q4 2008 compared to the year before.  In the Caribbean and Latin America they fell by 7%, while in Asia prices fell just 2%.

Basseterre -- Jan. 29, 2009 -- The current world economic slowdown and low consumer confidence have already had a significant impact on International Travel and Tourism in 2008, and realistically we can expect that this will continue throughout 2009.
